Get Back on the Road Faster

Every hour off the road costs you money. Rivercity Roadworthy's and Mechanical is a fully mobile, approved inspection station (AIS #12508) that comes to your home, your workplace or wherever your vehicle is parked, completes your Certificate of Inspection in under an hour, and lets you get straight back to driving.

Whether you drive a car for Uber, Ola or DiDi, or a motorcycle for Uber Eats, DoorDash or Menulog, the COI process is the same — simple, professional and built around your schedule, including weekends and early-morning slots.

COI vs Roadworthy - What's the Difference?

A Certificate of Inspection (COI) is a Queensland Transport requirement for vehicles used commercially for passenger transport or paid delivery work, including rideshare cars, motorcycles used for food delivery, taxis and limousines. It is not the same as a standard roadworthy certificate (RWC).

Standard Roadworthy (RWC)Certificate of Inspection (COI)

Used for Transfer of private vehicle ownership Commercial passenger transport or delivery (Uber, Ola, DiDi, food delivery on motorcycle)

Validity Single-use for sale12 months

Renewal Only required when selling Annually

Vehicle standards General safety items Higher standard - additional commercial criteria

If you're driving a car for rideshare, or a motorcycle for food delivery on platforms like Uber Eats, Door Dash or Menulog, you need a current COI — a standard RWC will not be accepted.

Platforms I Inspect For

A COI issued through Rivercity Roadworthy's is accepted by all major rideshare, delivery and booked hire services operating in Queensland.

Car rideshare:

  • Uber — UberX, Uber Comfort, Uber Premier, Uber Pet

  • Ola — standard and Premium

  • DiDi — Express, Premium and Max

  • Other platforms — Bolt, Shebah, GoCatch and similar booked hire

  • Taxi services — fleet vehicles and owner-operators

Motorcycle delivery:

  • Uber Eats — motorcycle and scooter delivery riders

  • DoorDash — motorcycle delivery

  • Menulog — motorcycle delivery

  • Other food and parcel delivery platforms — any service requiring a current COI

The COI is a Queensland Government standard — it is not platform-specific. One certificate covers you across every platform your vehicle is eligible for.

What's Included in a COI Inspection

A COI covers everything a standard roadworthy does, plus additional commercial-grade checks. The exact inspection items depend on whether the vehicle is a car or a motorcycle.

For cars (rideshare and taxi):

  • Vehicle age and condition — eligibility under platform and Queensland rules

  • Brakes, steering and suspension — full mechanical safety check

  • Tyres, wheels and alignment — including spare tyre condition

  • Lights, indicators and reflectors — all signaling equipment

  • Windscreen, wipers and mirrors — clear vision standards

  • Seat belts and child restraint anchors — operation, wear and mounting

  • Doors, locks and child locks — must operate from inside and outside

  • Body and chassis condition — structural integrity, rust, panel damage

  • Exhaust system — emissions and noise compliance

  • Interior condition — seats, trim, cleanliness standard for passengers

  • Identification — VIN, compliance plate, registration

  •

For motorcycles and scooters (delivery):

  • Frame condition — structural integrity, no major corrosion or damage

  • Brakes (front and rear) — pads, discs, hydraulic lines, lever and pedal feel

  • Tyres and wheels — tread, sidewall condition, alignment, spoke tension

  • Suspension — forks, rear shock, steering head bearings

  • Lights, indicators and reflectors — including hazard and brake operation

  • Mirrors and horn — operation and visibility

  • Throttle, clutch and controls — smooth operation, no sticking

  • Exhaust system — emissions, noise compliance, e-marking where required

  • Chain or belt drive — tension, wear, sprocket condition

  • Identification — VIN, frame number, compliance plate

  •

A pass means your COI is issued on the spot. If anything fails, you'll receive a clear list of items to rectify and a re-inspection can usually be booked the same week.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long does the COI inspection take?
Most COI inspections are completed in 45 to 60 minutes for cars, or 30 to 45 minutes for motorcycles and scooters, provided the vehicle is in good condition.

Q: How much does a COI cost?
Prices vary depending on the age and type of vehicle. Pricing is fixed for all suburbs across Brisbane and Redlands once your vehicle details are confirmed. Weekend and public holiday surcharges apply. Prices start from $129 inc gst and can be easily booked using the booking form on the book here page.

Q: How long is the COI valid?
12 months from the date of issue. You'll need to renew annually to continue driving for Uber, Ola, DiDi or any other rideshare platform.

Q: What documents do I need to provide?
Your vehicle registration certificate, current insurance details and a valid driver's license. I'll handle the COI paperwork at the inspection.

Q: What happens if my vehicle fails?
You'll receive a detailed list of items needing rectification. Once the work is done, a re-inspection is generally not required for minor defects and can be submitted in the form of photos, invoices and videos to info@rivercityroadworthys.com. Major defects will need to be rebooked at a cost of $66 inc gst and the COI is issued if compliance is met. This will all be explained to you on the day if need be.

Q: Can I get a COI if I'm not yet signed up with a rideshare or delivery platform?
Yes. Many drivers and riders obtain their COI before applying to Uber, Ola, DiDi, Uber Eats, Door Dash or Menulog so they can hit the road the day their account is approved.

Q: Does my vehicle need to be a specific age?
Each platform has its own vehicle age limits — Uber, Ola, DiDi and the delivery platforms all publish current requirements on their websites. The COI itself doesn't have an age cap, but platforms may refuse to onboard older vehicles or motorcycles.

Q: Can you inspect commercial passenger vehicles other than rideshare?
Yes. The same COI service covers taxis, booked hire, limousines and similar passenger transport vehicles.

Q: Do I need to be present during the inspection?
Not necessarily — but I need access to the vehicle and the keys. If you can't be there, leave the keys somewhere accessible and I'll photograph anything noteworthy and call you with the result.

Q: Do you inspect electric scooters or e-bikes for delivery?
A COI applies to registered motorcycles and scooters (CM class). E-bikes and personal e-scooters that don't require registration aren't COI-eligible, but most food delivery platforms require a registered motorcycle or scooter. If you're unsure whether your vehicle qualifies, give me a call and we'll work it out.
