Trailer Pre-Registration Measure-Ups — Brisbane and Redlands
Mobile trailer measure-up specialist across Brisbane and Redlands — all trailers up to 4.5t ATM
Years of experience measuring and documenting trailers for Queensland Transport pre-registration. I come to you, complete the TMR inspection sheets to specification, and give you the paperwork you need to register your trailer.
What's changed from 1 July 2026
From 1 July 2026, Transport and Main Roads no longer issues HVRAS accreditation for pre-registration inspections. The good news is that the inspections themselves continue — TMR still requires pre-registration measure-ups for trailers, and registered operators can either complete the forms themselves or seek assistance from a representative.
I am one of those representatives.
With years of HVRAS inspection experience behind me, I continue to provide professional pre-registration measure-ups across Brisbane and Redlands, using the official TMR inspection sheets (and the updated versions that became available on the TMR website from 1 July 2026).
The accreditation has changed. The expertise has not.

What's included in a measure-up
Every measure-up is conducted to TMR's current pre-registration inspection sheet, covering:
-
Overall dimensions (length, width, height) to specification
-
Axle group spacing and configuration
-
Coupling details and rating
-
Drawbar measurements and construction
-
Brake configuration and rating where applicable
-
Suspension type and rating
-
Wheel and tyre specifications
-
Light and reflector positioning to ADR requirements
-
Safety chain rating and attachment points
-
Identification plate details (VIN, ATM, GTM, Tare)
-
Body construction and dimensions
-
Any additional measurements specific to your trailer type
You receive the completed inspection sheet ready to submit with your registration application.
Why use a representative instead of doing it yourself?
You're entitled to complete the TMR pre-registration form yourself — and some operators do. However, most choose to use a representative because:
-
Accuracy matters — TMR rejects forms with measurement errors or missing data, which means resubmissions, delays and potentially a second registration attempt fee
-
Experience saves time — knowing which measurements TMR scrutinises most carefully comes from doing thousands of inspections
-
One trip, two jobs — combine your measure-up with a roadworthy certificate (or for caravans and campers, a gas compliance certificate) in a single mobile visit
-
You stay the registered operator — I provide the measurement expertise, you retain control

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Do I still need a measure-up after 1 July 2026?
Yes. TMR still requires pre-registration measurements for trailers. What changed on 1 July 2026 is that the inspections no longer require an HVRAS-accredited person to perform them. The measurement and documentation requirements themselves are unchanged.
What about the slightly amended inspection sheets TMR mentioned?
TMR released updated versions of the inspection sheets on their website from 1 July 2026. I use the current TMR sheets at every inspection so the paperwork you receive is always to the latest specification.
Are you still qualified to do this work if you're no longer HVRAS accredited?
The accreditation requirement has been removed by TMR for everyone — it is not a qualification I have lost, it is a requirement TMR has dropped. My experience and the equipment I use are exactly the same. Years of HVRAS work means I know the inspection sheets inside out.
Can I do the measure-up myself instead?
Yes. From 1 July 2026, registered operators and vehicle manufacturers can complete the pre-registration inspection sheets themselves. Most owners choose to engage a representative because measurement errors lead to TMR rejections and re-submission delays. If you'd like to try it yourself, the inspection sheets and guidance material are available on the TMR website.
How long does a trailer measure-up take?
Most standard trailers (box, car, boat, single or tandem axle) take 45 minutes to an hour. Caravans and camper trailers usually take 60 to 90 minutes. Larger or unusual builds may take a little longer.
What do I need to have ready for the inspection?
Have the trailer in a safe, accessible location with room for me to walk around it. If you have any existing paperwork — manufacturer's data plate, build details, weight certificates, ADR compliance documentation — have those handy. For custom builds, any engineering reports or build photos help. ALL trailers MUST be on a hard flat surface. Grass, dirt, rocks, slopes and hills will not be accepted for safety reasons and measurement accuracy.
Can you measure imported trailers?
Yes. Imported trailers are one of the more common categories I see. Bring any overseas paperwork you have and I'll work the measurements into the TMR format. The trailer must be on the Register of Approved Vehicles (RAV).
What if my trailer has been modified?
Modified trailers can be measured. Depending on the modification, you may also need an engineering certificate (issued by a recognised engineer, not by me). I can advise during the measure-up whether you'll need additional engineering documentation or a Queensland Modification Plate issued by an Approved Person.
Do you provide the completed form on the day?
Yes. The completed TMR pre-registration inspection sheet is provided at the end of the visit, ready for you to submit with your registration application.
What if TMR queries the measurements?
If TMR comes back with a query, contact me straight away. I keep records of every inspection and can clarify or re-attend if needed. In all my years of measure-ups I have had zero TMR rejections — the work is done thoroughly the first time.
Can you do measure-ups outside Brisbane and Redlands?
No. The service area is strictly Brisbane and Redlands. I do not travel outside these areas.
What does it cost?
$85 including GST for any trailer, caravan or camper trailer up to 4.5t ATM. Flat rate, no surprises.
Do you do measure-ups for heavy vehicles, trucks or prime movers?
No. This service is light trailers only, up to 4.5 tonnes ATM. For heavy vehicles, you'll need to find a heavy vehicle specialist. I am not doing heavy vehicle anymore. I can direct you to a Company that can.
