Mobile Gas Compliance Certificates for Caravans & Camper Trailers
Licensed gas certifier.
Brisbane and Redlands. Roadworthy and gas certificate in one mobile visit.
Queensland Gas Work Licence
· LIC-GWL-030486 ·
AS/NZS 5601.2 compliant
Two Certificates. One Visit.
Most caravan and camper trailer owners need two separate trades visiting on two separate days — one for the roadworthy, another for the gas. Rivercity Roadworthy's and Mechanical is one of the few mobile operators in Brisbane and Redlands able to issue both certificates in a single visit. If you only need one or the other, I can do that too.
Whether your caravan is being sold, registered, insured or simply due for a routine compliance check, I will come to you and inspect both the vehicle and the gas system under Queensland's current standards.
What Is a Gas Compliance Certificate?
A gas compliance certificate confirms that the LPG system fitted to your caravan or camper trailer meets the requirements of AS/NZS 5601.2 — the Australian standard for gas installations in caravans, motor homes and similar mobile dwellings.
You will typically need one in any of the following situations:
-
Selling your van or camper — buyers and dealers expect a current cert
-
Insurance claims or new policies — insurers may require documented compliance
-
After repairs or modifications — any work to the gas system requires recertification
-
Routine compliance checks — best practice every few years for safety and resale value
-
Bundled with a roadworthy inspection — common for transfer of ownership
This service is for existing gas systems only. I am licensed to service, test, repair, and certify existing Type A gas systems in caravans and camper trailers. I do not install new appliances or modify gas system layouts. If you need a new install or modification, I can refer you to a fully licensed gas installer.
What I'm Licensed To Do
My Gas Work Licence (Servicing and caravan certification) authorises me to:
-
Service existing Type A gas appliances (inspection, cleaning, adjustment, tightening of fittings)
-
Test existing gas systems and appliances for fault finding
-
Repair existing Type A gas appliances that have been previously installed and certified
-
Certify existing Type A gas systems in caravans and camper trailers
-
Disconnect and reconnect an existing appliance for servicing purposes
What I am not licensed to do:
-
Install new or replacement gas appliances
-
Modify the design, layout, or operating parameters of a gas system
-
Carry out work on pipes, regulators, cylinders, meters, or other gas system components beyond inspection and testing
-
Carry out any electrical work (a separate Restricted Electrical Licence is required — I can refer you to a qualified installer if electrical work is needed)
Being precise about what is and isn't covered is part of doing this work properly. If your job sits outside my licence scope, I will tell you up front and point you to the right trade.
What's Included in the Inspection
Every gas compliance inspection follows AS/NZS 5601.2 and includes:
-
Gas cylinder mounting — secure restraint, correct ventilation, age and condition
-
Regulator and hose assemblies — date stamps, hose condition, cracking, kinks
-
Gas piping and connections — soundness of joints, correct materials, run integrity
-
Pressure and leak testing — full system tested with a calibrated manometer
-
Ventilation requirements — fixed openings, flue clearances, draught diverters
-
Appliance condition — cookers, ovens, fridges, heaters and water heaters checked
-
Isolation valves and safety devices — operation and accessibility
-
Cylinder valves and overflow protection — POL connections, change-over valves
-
Compliance plate and labelling — required signage and identification
A pass means I issue your compliance certificate on the spot. If anything fails, I will identify exactly what needs attention, carry out any repairs that fall within my licence scope, or refer you to a licensed installer for items I cannot touch (such as pipework, regulator changes, or new installs).
Save Time With a Combined Inspection
If your caravan or camper is due for a roadworthy certificate as well, I can complete both inspections in a single visit. Most owners save half a day and one trade fee by combining them.
This bundled service is popular for:
-
Caravans and campers being sold or transferred
-
Vehicles coming off long-term storage
-
Insurance renewals requiring both certs
-
New owners wanting a full compliance baseline

FAQs about Gas Certificates
What is a mobile gas certificate?
A mobile gas certificate is a formal document issued by a licensed gas fitter after inspecting and testing your gas system on‑site. It confirms the installation is safe, leak‑free and complies with current Queensland gas regulations.
Which areas do you service?
Rivercity Roadworthys provides mobile gas certificates across Brisbane and the Redlands Suburbs. If you’re not sure whether we come to your area, just contact us with your location or you can check the bottom of the Book Here page.
What types of gas installations can you certify?
We can inspect and certify gas systems on caravans, motorhomes and camper trailers Type A gas installations. If you’re unsure whether your setup is covered, send us a photo or description.
Do I need a gas certificate to sell or register my caravan or camper?
In many cases, yes. A current gas compliance certificate is often required for registration transfers, new registrations and some sales, especially when there has been recent work or modification to the gas system. Always check the latest Queensland requirements for your situation.
What is checked during a gas certificate inspection?
Rivercity Roadworthy's and Mechanical typically check for gas leaks, correct operating pressures, regulator performance, appliance operation, clearances, pipework condition, isolation valves and ventilation. Any defects or safety issues are noted and must be rectified before a certificate can be issued.
Do you carry out new gas installations?
No. This service is for existing systems only — compliance checks, recertifications and post-repair inspections. New installations require a different licensing class.
How long does a mobile gas inspection take?
Most inspections take around 90 - 120 minutes depending on the size and complexity of the gas installation and whether any issues are found that need further testing or discussion. Some systems can take longer. If a Roadworthy is required along with your Gas Certificate Inspection, it will also take longer.
What happens if my gas system fails the inspection?
If I find defects or safety issues, I will explain the problem, outline the required repairs and provide options for rectification. Once the system has been repaired to a compliant standard, we can return to re‑inspect and issue the gas certificate. Options for evidence to be sent to Rivercity Roadworthy's cannot be accepted with Gas Inspections, and re inspection will be required for a small fee. This ensures the inspection has been thoroughly checked and compliance has been achieved.
How long is a gas compliance certificate valid?
In Queensland, caravan gas certificates are generally accepted for up to 3 months for registration or sale purposes, based on current guidelines. The certificate reflects the condition of the gas system at the time of inspection, so any changes, damage or gas work after that date will usually require a new inspection and certificate
Are you fully licensed?
Yes.
Rivercity Roadworthys uses appropriately licensed gas certifier and carries the required insurance for on‑site work. Certificates are issued in line with Queensland gas safety laws and standards:
AS/NZS 5601.2 — the Australian/New Zealand standard for gas installations in caravans, motor homes and similar mobile applications.
How much does a mobile gas certificate cost?
Pricing depends on the type of installation:
Caravans : $240 inc gst
With a Roadworthy Certificate at the same time is $300 inc gst
Camper Trailers: $210 inc gst
With a Roadworthy Certificate at the same time is $270 inc gst
additional fees may be required if the installation is complex - this will be discussed on the day if applicable
Can you do roadworthy and gas certificates at the same time?
Yes.
If you need both a mobile roadworthy/safety certificate and a gas compliance certificate, we can usually book them together to save you time and another visit.
Please see the Book Here page or select the Book Here button below and scroll to see the available options
How do I prepare for my gas inspection?
Please ensure the gas bottles are fitted and have gas, access to all appliances and pipework is clear, and any previous certificates or paperwork are available. If the vehicle or van is in storage, make sure we can reach it with our service vehicle. Please ensure that you vehicle is on a flat, hard and level surface. This is mandatory for safety reasons.
How do I book a mobile gas certificate?
You can book online through our website booking form or contact Rivercity Roadworthys by phone or email with your details, preferred time and location. We’ll confirm your appointment and send you any pre‑inspection information you need.
